I registered to play using the Google Account link. I can login using a browser, but I'm not able to login on the app using my user name and password.

Usually when this happens its because a player is trying to log into the wrong server. The EN and US server share a language so the log in pages look much the same. Your log in information on one won't work on the other which will lead to the error you are seeing. You can check or change the server you are logging into by clicking on the flag icon at the top of the log in page on the app.
