:heh::heh::heh::heh::heh::heh::heh::heh:actually, in an academy, after you have reached level 30 and used all your research points, you can destroy the academy whilst keeping all your research. this means you can have a free 80 or so pop (academy lvl1) and still have plow, ram, phalanx etc. enabled.
that 8 ls can make a big difference occasionally, as we have all seen before. (yes even me with my lack of abp) the same goes the other way for biremes. I haven't actually tried this myself, but I have been bolted in the academy without losing anything I have researched, (the same applies to silver in caves)
huh. it worked when I was bolted in the academy and cave a month ago. maybe it only works if you are bolted and not if you demolish it. I guess I will have to do some experimenting.
is it worth it for the perfect nuke? every 1.2 hours until you strike lucky 29 times. all for 8 extra ls.
The maths, indeed, do not lie. A level 28 academy (necessary for battering ram) will take up 84 pop. Let's just say you squeeze out an additional 6 pop from somewhere. You can have an extra 9 LS. That means (at 200 naval attack per piece) 1800 extra naval attack. Let's say you have 259 LS this way (for the sake of picking a number). That gives you a total number of 259*200 = 51800 naval attack, going up to 56980 with favourable wind.
Without those 9 LS, your total naval attack from 250 ships is 250*200 = 50000. With battering rams, this goes up to 50000 * 1.1 = 55000. With favourable wind this goes up to 60000 (or 60500 if it's *1.1*1.1 instead of *1.2, not too sure which applies. Also, your ships will be built 10% faster, cheaper and be 10% quicker. Academy 0 or level mickey mouse to squeeze out a few LS (or attack troops) more is not all that great, says the unlying maths
What?
No,not really, but it does make you sound like a nerd.
Well, yes,I do understand what you are saying, but what sort of person has that kind of time on their hands to research those kind of stats....for a browser game.
Only one answer comes to mind.
I think he meant why were you mixing attack power with farm spaces....
I thought the topic was why have more or less of your city built up and what the advantage or dis-advantage of having buildings up to high levels was?
I was trying to illustrate why just having lots of units can sometimes be worse than having slightly less units, backed by research. Alas, as (I think), sploggo pointed out, your research remains even if the Academy is taken down to a lower level, which makes my point somewhat moot.
