Really?
Then tell me what do you think if all gold buying palyers leave this game now?
Let me make it easy for you, the game would be closed within 3 months.
balance? dude you wont even be playing much longer. if you cant spend a lousy benjamin on gold, over time you cannot keep up. you cannot make forces or build cities fast enough. player A, who spends some currency builds cities and troops multiple times faster than the jobless or makework player can. morale is socialist enough to keep you in the game for a while, but in the end you will be a long forgotten less than a footnote. this game was BUILT for people to spend currency, that they shafted those that have is just stupid business practice.
Fair isn't propping up the losers of the world, that is charity. Fair is giving everyone equal access as the internet does. If you can sign in, that is the access. What you do from there is based on your real world talents and ability. I have the ability to spend, probably more in a week than many could in a year. and, doing it from tip money. Fair is me being able to play the game based on all my abilities as I have earned them. A hand up is one thing, that is decent and fair. A hand out is charity. obviously those that are the charity based cannot tell the difference. socialism vs open market. to those according to their ability, instead of to those according to their need taken from those who have the ability. OBAMANATION AGAIN!!
Your comment about this issue not being as bad is not really fair, for you (someone that complained about the previous method) it makes no difference, but some players have been potentially been left out of pocket due to this move. In my opinion both issues are equally as bad.
I couldn't agree more with the statement of players having too many laurels now, solving one problem (which needed solving) by adding the timers have created another, in the players that used a lot of gold to gain laurels now potentially can't use them in time.
I am hoping in the next 4 weeks the team behind the recent decisions find a way to ensure that players that have invested in laruals already are able to spend them in some way (even if it is by opening the shop for longer) that way while not perfect everyone should be slightly happier.

The fact that some players now have too much laurel to spend is a legitimate issue. The only solution I can think of is a refund (if that's possible).
But IMO, this issue is not as bad as the complete disruption of game balance.
Simple solution but greedy innogames wont do it.
Dude this is ACTUAL money some players (including myself) EARNED i guess you dont know what that means eh? This can potentially been considered as an act of THEFT of gaming company since there was no notice just a change, Makes me wanna go call my friend lawyer to see if this is actual legal when its cash involved if you can simply change rules without any notice.
Sometimes it really hilarious to see your comments .. Earlier you were saying that IG is a company and needs to make money ... suddenly it has become "greedy" ... ... talk about double standards
Also, if you care about your actual earned money so much make sure you dont end up with more laurels/gold than you need .. simple as that ... and IG didnt ask you to buy gold ... it was offered to you along with some of its advantages and you took it ... your mistake .. how is IG gotto be blamed??
plus i dont think theres going to be any legal trouble for IG ... all of these are covered under T&C .. ie IG is free to change rules without issuing a prior notification..
Its like you pick up 10 yoghurts in shop you pay for them then when you want to put them in a bag the seller says ''SORRY you can only take out 1 each day'' wouldnt you flip out? And no way you can get refund?
I think a lot of people here are missing the some of the key points here and just like to argue with each other...
Someone at IG messed up big time with the way this event was launched, in respect to allowing you to purchase additional resources. There is no question about this giving a major advantage to people wanting to use it, while for most the advantage wasn't that big maybe use it 10 times per day, some players will have used it a few 100 times per day.
Players then complained and IG dropped in a fix, however the fix is in my opinion was not very well thought out and now instead of balancing out the issue and making everyone happy it has gone reversed it.
I don't think anyone doubts the issue should have been fixed in some way, however for me the way the fix was executed is the issue.
The way it has been fixed leaves two potential problems:
a) Some players could have way too many Laurals now that are unable to be used in the timeframe.
b) Players invested in buying more gold to use on the event which now they are unable to, while you can use gold on other stuff if you went out and bought 12k/22k additional gold the day before the change chances are it’s going to be sitting in your account for a while now. (Considering normal premium is about 1000 per month)
Now a lot of players this affects will not be the small few that were abusing the situation but most likely the average gold user that wanted to keep try and not let the lead get so far ahead.
I don't feel there is any need for the arguing about the merit of the decision made to cap the event, it should have been done to keep the game fair the issue is how it was executed.
It’s also not the (premium) players fault that they could be left out of pocket so to speak with this change, the option was buy up and compete or lag behind, the only people that can be blamed are the people that allowed the event to be launched without being checked first, and those that authorised the fix without it being thought though.
While the IG T&C's cover all of the above, so yeah you have no leg to stand if you want to complain about this I personally don't think it is not great customer service.
While it may not be much consolation to those that are affected by this I have voiced my concerns (quite vocally) with our Community Management team, but it wasn't their decision either all they can do is pass back the feedback.
It should be noted these views are my own personal views based on my experience as a player, and not that of my role as a Senior Moderator.

Ok, we have argued a bit in this thread, but I fully agree with this post
Here's my final view:
The event itself was flawed, if it would have started in it's current state everything would have been great.
It was naïve to think that the instant resource and favor wouldn't get used, as there are plenty of way smaller games where people happily throw a few 100 or even 1000s of dollars to gain a big advantage.
So with the event starting as it were, IG had to chose between 2 evils:
-keep the event as it is, ruining the game in a few worlds for non/moderate gold spenders
-change the event, annoying players who just bought a lot of gold to keep up/get ahead
Even though I really like that in the end they chose the first option (I would have quit otherwise), there should be a decent option for people who have bought gold to use at the grepolympics.
After all, they are not the ones to blame, they see an opportunity to get an advantage/get back at bullies/whatever by spending money.
It's not my way of playing and if I can hurt someone who plays like this ingame I will. But IG gave them this option, can't blame them for taking it.
All crew members I saw here where defending the former grepolympics (even calling people who where rightfully complaining 'haters' or 'whiners', which is a bit unprofessional imho), there was no sign of anything getting changed and then BAM, cooldowns. no notice or anything.
It's a bit childish to go refer to the rules now (which I'm sure are legaly covered), the event was flawed, it was IGs fault. It would be nice of them to show some goodwill towards those big spenders.
It would also be nice for (forum)staff not to jump to unjust conclusions immediatly and actually look at the complaints. Yes a lot of them don't make sense, yes there is some whining, just look into complaints seriously. Basically, the OP of this thread had the core problem covered and it took way too long to fix.
As i said problem is not the fix/nerf problem is because it came without proper and expected announcement with reasonable(id say 24h) time in advance...
thats not the only way to abuse it though, when i left delphi at easter i wiped all my 40 odd cities worth of troops on my buddy fempt who had the double bp buff on and gained over 125k dbp and 4 slots for 0 losses, lucky that i decided to leave at that exact time but the events in this new format have a massive effect on the whole server, especially newer servers, ppl who are working hard shouldnt get wiped out or lose the ranks they worked hard to get for whats supposed to be a sub game, id like to see it played for awards only like the old events, fair enough add premium to help get the higher shiny's but lets keep the SUB part rather than taking over the entire game
Not really the only correct way is refund being available... increasing shop is like when electricity company charged too much on electricity bill for 7 months then it was discovered and they tried to work their way out saying ''ok no problem you'll pay less on next bill'' But no interest rate wasnt calculated so we demanded our money back.
Thats the way it should be, i can spend gold now differently if i get it back cos laurels are sitting doing nothing ... Everyone should be able to buy gold back based on exchange rate of his rank, so if you keep scoring 130 it costs 130 laurels for 50 gold if you are ranked so you would score 120 make it 120 for 50 gold.
Simple solution but greedy innogames wont do it.
And this problem would not OCCUR if innogames would simply send announcement that they are changing shop and adding cooldowns... simply ninja nerfing and changing is a very inappropriate act and worthy of being unhappy about it.
