Thanks guys, I do appreciate it, perhaps all the more so since we have not always been kind with one another. Also thanks to the anonymous person who left me a +rep and AoC for the message.
Unfortunately my grandfather took a turn for the worse last night and passed away at about 8:10 p.m.. I thought he seemed a bit more stabilized than he had been previously, just sleeping much more than he had been, but his numbers started dropping very quickly toward the end, there wasn't even time to call everyone down. It turned out that it happened during my watch. We aren't a big family (I'm the only grandchild on that side) but we tried to have someone there at all times. This is the second death I've witnessed this year; the first one was his/our cat, but that was traumatic in its own right since I don't know if things didn't go right but the term "putting to sleep" definitely was not the case there, visually anyway. At least for my grandfather, it appeared he passed peacefully in his sleep. After all his recent suffering, which was a lot, there is some comfort in that. But it cuts me up to have seen a tear which had rolled down his cheek and his one eye being watery at the time of his death.
Picking up the pieces will be difficult going forward as my grandmother is still alive, so the hardest part has just begun I guess.
